GenuisOct 23, 2009 Thomas Campbell has to be one of the best surf film makers out there right now. I love all of his stuff. This movie was no execption. I only gave it four stars as I feel like sometimes he drifts too much into the "mother of the earth" realm of 60's 70's acid surf cinema. But in all, great music, cool profiles and great surfing. This is my cure for local flat spells. His work is what inspires me in my own surf film making, a true original who is not beholdent to what the "industry" is making. If you like his work, also check out Jason Baffa- another truly original surf film maker.

FantabulousJul 09, 2009 I have no clue what the two people who panned this are talking about, this movie and Sprout (another Thomas Campbell masterpiece) are my two favorite surf flicks of all time. And I'm not even a longboarder (I ride mostly hybrids).
His movies far transcend the surf flick genre. I leave them running on the projector at parties and everybody gets mezmerized by the visuals. I can't possibly recommend this movie highly enough. And go get Sprout too. I just ordered The Present, which I'm guessing is phenomenal too.

Possibly the worst surfing video ever made.May 09, 2009 The Seedling by Thomas Campbell is the worst surf video I have ever watched. It was tough just getting through it one time. It has not held up over time. The whole cinematograph was grey and dull, virually unwatchable. There were great longboarders featured, but nothing resembling a semi-close up to see the glide or footwork or anything else for that matter. The soundtrack was so eclectic that it became annoying. No continuity at all. Avoid this dvd at all costs.

Poor quality graphicsJan 06, 2009 The 11x17 reprint of the movie poster is nothing more than an enlarged low-res graphic printed on heavy poster stock. Save youself the $19.99 and print an enlarged thumbnail at home.

A must have for any longboard surfer!Apr 24, 2008 Recently added this DVD to my surf film library. It has become my favorite. The combination of excellent surfing footage shot on 16mm film, expertly edited with just the right amount of artistic flare that is pleasing and does not get in the way of the surfing. The soundtrack is soothing yet at the same time has an underlying drive that perfectly compliments the classic longboard style of surfing being displayed. A nice change from the heavy distortion and thrash that has accompanied so many surf videos over the years.
What I like best about this film is that the waves in it are very accessible and often similar to what the average surfer will encounter at his home break on any given day. You can take ideas from this film and go try them out at your local break. For that reason it is much more inspiring to me than watching Laird Hamilton at Jaws or Slater surfing some remote South Pacific reef pass.
If you are a longboarder and you don't have this one yet, buy it!!
